Danny O'Neill on the Ricks and Racks Arete V6/7a (photo: O'Neill collection)

Danny O'Neill reports a V6/7aish aręte that he climbed last summer at the Ricks and Racks, situated close to Plas y Brenin on the same side of the valley as the RAC boulders.

The problem lies above the first tier of crags and directly below the second tier, about a 5 min walk in from the right as you look up the hill. Another obvious reference point is a bolted line (!?) about 100m to the right on the second tier of crags.

“I Didn't find much else, but a despo sitter may be possible and the right side of the aręte also remains. However, 30 mins up the hill at the crag with a VS called Partially obscured by tall sheep (see old Llanberis guide) we found a pretty good area with loads of nice easy problems (V0-2) on free standing boulders, along with a few harder problems. But it’s quite a slog!”, commented Danny.

Other reports of these latter problems have come through before – sounds like it might be worth a look on a sunny day.
