Johnny Woods pulling through steep ground on Burnside V5/6c photo: Woods Collection

Johnny Woods reports a possible first ascent on the boulders beneath Warpath at Rhoscolyn.

“Got bored with doing routes at Rhoscolyn the other day, so checked out the boulders below Warpath, etc. The largest most obvious one has a nice steep bit right below Warpath. Did a worthwhile traverse, with some pleasingly tricky moves at about V5/6c.”, commented Johnny.

It goes from left to right - from an obvious flat hold to a large crozzly pocket (which is a bit sharp and bendy) - then mantels onto the slab. Johnny suggested Burnside as a name (assuming no other counter claims).

“Also worthwhile, though the landing becomes shocking, is just around the corner to the right from an obvious finger flake out rightwards past an undercut hole. There are a few other lines to go, a few pads and spotters would be handy.”, added Johnny.
