Wet conditions during the recent monsoon: Chris Doyle stopping for a quick chalk dip during an attempt on Sorle’s Link V8/7b? photos: Si Panton

Sorle Haywood has climbed one of the obvious big links on the newly revived Breck road crag section. Sorle’s Link (for want of a better name) starts up Breck Road, and then heads left along the lip of the roof all the way to the Ring Peace finishing jug. Aside from a brief opportunity to chalk up on Burning Sphincter, this is a very sustained and intense connection.
Sorle has suggested the surprisingly amenable grade of V8/7b for the link, reckoning that Texas Karaoke Massacre is only V6/7a with the new heelhook beta.
It does seem that this new method is easier than Chris Doyle’s original sequence, and a grade of V7/7a+ has been mooted (by others) for TKM. This still leaves Sorle’s Link at a likely V8+/7b+ish grade.
Sorle came close to flashing the line, and did it on his second attempt. This is his first new problem, but I suspect we’ll be hearing more from Sorle in the future.
