Dear NWB.com readers,

Apologies to those avid fans of this column for its absence in recent times. Earlier in the year staff at Boulder of the Month were thought to have been fed some hallucinogenic drugs, and things went awry for a month or three, We do hope we have not been away for too long.

And so, without further ado let us now unveil Ogwen’s crowning glory. This time-beaten little piece of sloping wonder is situated right on the path up the West Face of Tryfan. From the long lakeside layby, cross the road and go through the iron kissing gate, heading straight up hill for 150m to the obvious challenge. Its summit is decorated with a tuft of grass and an artistic streak of moss slithers diagonally down to the left.

This rock is as bold and independent as the cuckoo, whose call we await at this thrilling time of year. The problem itself begins at the left hand end, and requires particularly aggressive heelhooking to more positive circumstances, before a mantel for which no amount of Fontainbleau experience can prepare you.

Best regards,

Big G
