On Saturday 4th December Si Panton despatched another new line in his current second home, the Llanberis Pass.

Below Dinas Mot and beneath the popular Barrel face he spotted another of those, ‘why hasn’t it been done before’ problems. The undercut block a few metres down the hill is occasionally used as a warm up by Barrel Traverse wannabes, but the obvious diagonal seam at the back of the roof had for some bizarre reason, remained untouched. After an initial sequence testing session with local muscleman Mat Perrier, Panton returned twice, making further method refinements, before successfully linking the pumpy and powerful line.

Beta: start sitting at the large jugs at the right side of the roof; head left along the ramp/seam feature at the back of the roof (with a useful high toe hook on the second hand hold), to a burly crux section crossing through to a slot, thereafter slapping hopefully to a fat side pull in the low niche on the left. Exit, either direct with a slap to a large flatty, or cross again into the niche before moving up and back right to the same hold (approximately 12 moves to this point). Finish by yarding up positive holds onto the slab, which leads rather satisfyingly to a summit of sorts.
