Mark Dicken has developed an immaculate slab in a little-visited part of Nant Gwynant. The right side of the slab has a number of high quality 5s and 6s, but the left side is where the harder lines can be found.

Cynnil (7A+) follows a dog leg line up the slab between the cracks. Poor footholds and directional holds give intense and insecure moves.

”It didn't feel eliminate, as it's quite a wide slab, and the cracks would pull you right off it (and are full of plants soil and drippage).”

Said Mark, before adding,

”7A+ is definitely a guess, but I've been going ok at the moment, finally back to doing the odd V8 indoors and forever close to the crux of Ultimate Warrior. I usually under estimate the grades of FAs I've got tunnelled in on, so I'm happy for someone else to voice an opinion. It's a bit of an adventure getting up there, but only 30mins. Wellies or waterproof boots recommended.”

There are a couple of obvious hard lines left to do to the right of Cynnil.

Approach: There is limited parking possible at 53.026532, -4.036365. Walk on along the road and follow a public footpath straight on from the strong right angle bend, past Hafodydd Brithion and into the wilderness. As the footpath exits the woods there's a ruin on the right, pass this and head for the gate in the wall to a sheepfold. Pass through this trending uphill to a boulder and a big tree, then contour left into a re-entrant tracking uphill to find the hidden paths. The slab is on the plateau above the rock pillar on the skyline. (53.026587, -4.021289) The area is named, somewhat amusingly, Yr Amlwg on the OS map.
