The recent dry cool weather has meant it’s been a busy week of first ascents for the usual suspects. On Tuesday Osian Parry completed an old project of his in Cwm Silyn (see page 615 in the NWB Mountain Crags 3.1 guide).

Esgair Llyn (8A) can be found on the obvious boulder 200m left (east) of the main boulder. To reach it go round the lake, then over a stile and it is just up the hill.

The stand version (a tenuous transition around the lip of the bulge) goes at 7B, but the sitting start adds much difficulty, plus a pretty hard snatch into a sidepull on the first move.

”It’s got good movement on nice holds, and is in one of the nicest places I’ve climbed. I was pretty pleased to get this one done. I thought it was impossible a few years ago, so it’s good to see some progress. It still put up a good fight, and I was proper pumped on the headwall.”

Said Osian.
