Osian Parry continues to produce inspiring first ascents all over Eryri, something which is all the more impressive when you realise he hasn’t yet passed his driving test! His latest effort is a tough line in Nant Gwynant.
Cilfan y Coed (8A+) can be found at a similar distance (i.e. 250m) from the road to the Outbreak boulder, but about 100m to the north east at the base of the steeper hillside. Here you will find a large lozenge of rock leaning against the crag, and forming a steep inner face where the action occurs.
A standing start gains the left end of a ledge, then wild moves lead out to grasp and grapple with the outer arête, which is turned to finish up the outer slab.
”I’m really happy with this one. I think it’s up there with anything in North Wales.” said Osian after the ascent.
The left arête of the lozenge can also be climbed from a sitter at 6C/7A.
