On Tuesday David Fidler climbed a low start to Truancy in Coed Maes Newyddion, bumping the grade up to 8A.
”It’s always nice to make a line feel more complete. Six years ago I opened the higher start, using a whack above-head-heel out right which has proved unpopular, and possibly inefficient. Anyway, when I saw Osian add his low start to Buddha Belly [7C added last May], I got psyched on the idea of linking it into the harder exit. Five sessions and lots of sequence optimization later and I scraped my way up to the final committing slap. It's wonderful when everything sticks.”
Said David, before adding:
”I reckon it's super bottom end 8A, and connies play a pretty big role. Was in good nick today!”

Jack Palmieri was in for a rapid repeat today, confirming the 8A grade and the quality.
Jack also added a tough 8A low start to The Roof of the Baby Buddha (right of the other low starts). He was initially sceptical that he could do the first move, so hadn’t bothered to re-work the moves on the original line. After latching the move, he then faced an unplanned scramble to the finish, but managed to hold it together and top out.
