Si Panton on Si’s Traverse V7/7a+ photos: Dave Noden

.

Spring is officially here. The clocks have gone forward and this evening the Cromlech Boulders were busy once again with keen locals turning up for the traditional Tuesday night after work session.

Si Panton celebrated the changing of seasons by sniffing out another tasty truffle on Jerry’s Wall, a little further down the Pass opposite Ynys Ettws.

Si’s Traverse V7/7a+ starts sitting as for Jerry’s Wall, then heads up and leftwards across the undercut and leaning wall, past a series of slopers, edges and a very large pebble to gain a sloping pinch on the left arête. A final barn door swing allows a spiky jug to be grasped; rock up leftwards to finish. A sustained and intense little number.

The obvious sitter on the left, the upper part of which forms the end of the traverse is a superb problem, and about V5/6cish; this was first climbed by Nige Callender a few years back.

Just as the sun was setting Adam Hocking popped over and climbed a direct, and surprisingly independent, stand up line up the wall above, with an insecure slap for the top. Adam's Wall is probably about V6/7a, but who knows, it could be anything as he did it in his trainers!
