James Lillie has climbed a stunning new line on the Llyn Peris Walls. James’ Wall V7/7a+ lies just above the road approximately 30m left of the last house just beyond the Castell Dolbadarn bend on the outskirts of Llanberis.
From a sitting start, powerful laybacking moves on directional holds lead into a highball rockover finish, with a nervey finger creep onto a thank god flatty just below the top. James first climbed the line as a stand up at around V5/6cish, and then minutes later added the burly sitter.
Also in the same area: Last October John Maskell climbed Cwmaelhir Arete, an excellent looking V5/6c line up the obvious leaning pillar situated 100m further along the hillside towards Nant Peris. To reach it drop back down to the road and walk along to the road sign which lies directly below the pillar. A gate up left allows access to the crag. It climbs the left hand side of the arete using both the arete and holds on the left wall to a final committing move to the quartzy pinnacle of the block.
Both problems provide the perfect complement to the nearby Fish Skin Wall mini circuit (see page 96 in the NWB guidebook).
