Pete Robins demonstrating his superb new traverse: Cirque du Soleil 7B+ Photos: Si Panton

Pete Robins slapping the top on: Zumanity 6B

Pete Robins continues his mid winter bouldering rampage with yet another quality addition. This time it's a full length left-to-right traverse of Wal Heulog situated above the Marine Drive on the West Shore side of the Orme.

The majority of the up lines on this neat little crag were first climbed by Chris Pollard in the summer of 2008 – the grade range runs from easy to 6C.

Cirque du Soleil 7B+ starts sitting at the left arête and moves up a few metres before traversing into a bridge position in the corner. Thereafter it stays low with a couple of tricky sections (firstly 6C, then 7A) and a final hard 7A+ section going low across a smooth wall to reach a layback groove.

Pete reckoned it would rate F8a as a route grade. The rock is a bit sharp in places, but there are some nice slopey features on the traverse.

Pete also climbed the obvious roof line 70m round to the left. Zumanity 6B has a pair of perfect, smooth dishes above the lip – gain these and slap for the top.

To reach the crag park as for Creigiau’r Heulog at the lay-by close to the 4450 marker on the pavement. Head steeply up the hill for 100m then contour round rightwards to the obvious clean escarpment.
