Owen Hayward continues with his development campaign at Porth Ysgo. This time he spotted an unclimbed sds on the American Rafiki block.

The Yank 7A+ starts sitting under the rounded bulging arete right of American Rafiki. Clamp on, bear-hug style, and make a couple of insecure moves up to edges then lurch for the juggy slot. Mantel out to finish up the slabby wall.

“Happy days! I was hoping for a 7b but was trying a duff sequence using an undercut out left - heading straight up was the way.”

Enthused Owen after the ascent.

Owen also climbed the obvious link along the lip from American Rafiki into The Yank at 6C.
