Old man Panton explains:
“Having been a bit under the weather of late, I haven’t bothered visiting the cave since the late winter period. This week I returned, and was rather amused to see that the ground level, particularly under the Left Wall had dropped by approximately 6 inches – presumably as a result of the increased traffic in the cave.
The ground fill in both Split Infinity and the Cave is a loose amalgam of mud and old concrete waste, which seems destined to to become more compressed over time. So far this does appear to have a positive outcome for bouldering; On Wednesday I managed to climb a new low level line out left from the base of Ring Of Fire, exiting as for the Left Wall Traverse. I had tried this a few years ago, but had given up because there was insufficient ground clearance.”
(Start with hands on the two right hand posi holds on the shelf – as per the start of ROF -, cross over to a slopey pinch at the left side of the shelf and work tenuously up, using a tricky heelhook, into the flake.) An obvious link into the Flake Start remains to be done.
Dustkick rates an easy V6.
The base of the Lickety Split problem also seems to have dropped a few inches, which again, is a good thing, allowing more space for a previously cramped start.
