Charlie Panton on The Great Innovator 6A; the crux of the new traverse is crossing the steep section to the right. Photo: Si Panton

Local legend and ever-keen activist, Phil Targett, has climbed the low level project traverse line on the Pen y Gwryd Boulder. Better a Witty Fool Than a Foolish Wit rates 7A+ and has a desperate, shouldery crux. Phil climbed it left-to-right starting at the left arete of the boulder. An easier, 6Cish, higher line is possible sweeping over the top of the steep section.

Phil also climbed a number of other grade 6 lines on the nearby boulders; some of these have been done before but probably not all. See page 296 in the new NWB guide.

NB. The Great Innovator is, on reflection, a bit overgraded. Low 6A is probably more accurate. Still, a fantastic problem on perfect dolerite.
