Mat Perrier added an extended start to Hot for Teacher (located in the scree slope below Dinas Mot in the Llanberis Pass – see the Barrel section of the guide, page 55.)

The original problem featured a rather contrived start, defined by the rule of starting with your just your right hand on the low horizontal slot. In reality this meant that the left hand was positioned way out left on a crimp, just before the slopey letterbox hold. This gave a funky, but somehow unsatisfying V7 tick; something had to be done to sort this anomaly out. The new V8 start pulls on matching the slot with a foot lock on the low block, before powerful and technical moves lead out left into the still hard finish of the original problem. A second ascent of this intense new link came moments later from Si Panton.

Staying on the same block, the consensus grade for Gav’s Big Problem is moving firmly towards V7 – some solace I’m sure for anybody who’s been spanked by this tricky and sustained test piece of late. Slimfast, the V6 reverse version, finishing up the delightful rising lip on the right side of the block is also superb.

The direct project line across the roof (somehow utilising the undercut/pinch feature on Gav’s Big Problem), with the new Hot for Teacher start, remains an obvious challenge.
